You can't directly import a whole map you find on Google Maps into My Maps. However, My Maps allows importing data in specific formats to create your custom map. Here's how to import map data into My Maps:
-
Supported Formats: My Maps supports data in two main formats:
- CSV (Comma-Separated Values): This is a spreadsheet format where each row represents a location and its details. You can create a CSV file with location data like addresses or latitude/longitude coordinates.
- KML/KMZ (Keyhole Markup Language): This format is specifically designed for geographic data and can store points, lines, and shapes for your map.
-
Importing the Data:
- Sign in to My Maps on your computer.
- Open an existing map or create a new one.
- Click on "Add layer" in the map legend. Give your new layer a name.
- Under the new layer, click "Import."
- Upload your CSV or KML/KMZ file containing your location data.
- Click "Select."
- Sign in to My Maps on your computer.
-
Additional Considerations:
- For CSV files, My Maps might require a specific column named "WKT" to define the location data. You can specify which column contains the location data during import.
- My Maps has limitations on file size and the number of entries. Make sure your file adheres to these limits (usually around 2,000 rows for CSV and 100 photos for KML/KMZ).
