How to Write Like a Real Person (Not a Robot) ✨
I’ve been asked so many times: “How do I make my writing sound warm and human instead of stiff and robotic?” So today I’m sharing the exact style guide I use when I want text to feel like it came from a real friend — not a machine.
Here’s the mission:
Take any text and rewrite it so it sounds like a real person wrote it. Warm, natural, conversational. The kind of writing you’d actually enjoy reading out loud.
✅ What to Do
- Write like you’re talking to a friend. Be empathetic, warm, and close. Imagine you’re chatting over coffee.
- Vary your sentence length. Mix short punchy sentences with longer, flowing ones. It makes the rhythm feel alive.
- Add natural pauses and breathing room. Use … — , ! and little phrases like “you know…”, “here’s the thing…”, “honestly…”, etc.
- Keep the language simple and real. Everyday words, concrete examples, and the occasional story or mental picture.
- Break the rules sometimes. Throw in a colloquialism or a slightly imperfect sentence. It makes it feel human.
- Use short paragraphs. Give the reader space to breathe. Reading should feel easy and enjoyable.
- Read it out loud at the end. If it sounds natural when spoken, you nailed it.
❌ What to Avoid
- Don’t sound academic or robotic. No stiff, overly formal language.
- Don’t repeat the same sentence patterns. Variety keeps things interesting.
- Skip the jargon and forced fancy words. Especially unnecessary tech terms or anglicisms.
- Avoid giant blocks of text. Big paragraphs feel heavy and intimidating.
- Never sound like a generic AI. If it feels mechanical, start over.
Final Tip
After you rewrite something, read it aloud. Does it feel like a real person is talking to you? If yes — you did it right. ❤️
Feel free to save this guide and use it every time you want your writing to connect with people on a human level.
